When pure titanium is mixed with other chemical elements, it's termed titanium alloys. Titanium alloys generally possess higher tensile strength and toughness compares to titanium in its pure form. Titanium alloys have wider application in general, especially when alloyed with small amount of aluminium and vanadium, with weight ratio of 6% and 4% respectively. The result is a solid solubility which able to go withstand precipitation strenghtening when exposes to a range of temperature, in a process termed heat treatment. Via heat treatment, alloy is shape into various form, prior to putting it to different application, which allow easier fabrication of high strength product. 

 

The most commonly used titanium alloy is the Grade 5 titanium alloy (also known as Ti6Al4V, Ti-6Al-4V orTi 6-4), as mentioned above, form with mixing pure titanium with 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium. Grade 5 titanium alloy generally used in Chemical Processing, Aerospace, Marine as well as in Medical application.
